Features
Resolutely fulfilling its fundamental mission of cultivating virtue and nurturing talent, SZTU is dedicated to producing high-caliber, innovative engineers and other application-oriented professionals at the undergraduate level and above. Centering on industry needs, the university is anchored in engineering while simultaneously advancing disciplines such as science, economics, management, art, medicine, and literature, and vigorously promoting AI-driven interdisciplinary integration. Optical engineering, integrated-circuit science and engineering, and Internet-of-Things engineering have been included in the list of key disciplines in Guangdong Province. Materials science and engineering have entered the top 1 % of the ESI global rankings, setting the fastest record among Shenzhen universities for ESI inclusion.
The university places strong emphasis on industry-education collaboration, embedding itself in Shenzhen’s “20+8” industrial clusters. It has forged in-depth partnerships with 258 leading enterprises and established five industry colleges, including the Shenzhen Semiconductor Advanced Manufacturing College, the SF Fengxue Industry College, and the BYD Future Mobility College. 15 elite programs have also been launched, such as the Huawei Kunpeng Elite Class, Tencent Security Talent Class, Baidu AI Elite Class, BYD Automotive Industrial Design Elite Class, and Loongson Zhongke Talent Class.
Practical learning is central: the university hosts maker spaces for racing cars, robotics, and unmanned aerial vehicles, among others. SZTU students have garnered 2,654 provincial-level-or-above awards and 1,288 international or national awards in competitions such as the “Challenge Cup”. To cultivate top-tier innovators, the university has introduced the X-Talent Program, a master’s-level initiative that opens diverse pathways for the development of high-caliber application-oriented talent.
SZTU is advancing open education and has established partnerships with 114 overseas universities and institutions. Robust exchanges of faculty, students, and joint research are carried out every year. In collaboration with eight Swiss universities, the university co-founded the Sino-Swiss Innovation Center (Shenzhen) and became one of the first universities approved by China’s Ministry of Education to host a Sino-Swiss GF Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Practice Base, thereby opening seamless bachelor-to-master joint training pathways. Each year, the university invites faculty and students from partner institutions to its International Week and sends multiple cohorts of students abroad for exchanges and joint degree programs.
