SZTU professor honored with Ding Ying Science and Technology Award

Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology recently announced the winners of Ding Ying Science and Technology Award for 2021. After the preliminary evaluation, expert re-evaluation and final review by the judging committee, 30 winners for the 16th Ding Ying Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Province were selected. Prof. Cao Leifeng, distinguished professor of the Center for Advanced Material Diagnostics, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), won the Award, marking a new breakthrough in the talent introduction of SZTU.

 

Approved by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Ding Ying Science and Technology Award was founded in 1989 in the name of the famous scientist Ding Ying, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It aims to carry forward Academician Ding’s dedication to science, reward young and middle-aged talents who have made outstanding contributions to the economic and social development as well as scientific and technological progress of Guangdong province, promote the growth of outstanding young and middle-aged academic and technical leaders, and provide strong human resources and intellectual support for Guangdong province to realize its development goals.

Prof. Cao Leifeng has long been engaged in laser plasma diagnosis. To serve the national needs in the research of inertial confinement fusion (ICF), he has been engaged in related research for over 20 years and discovered new technical approaches in the fields of short-wave radiation imaging and energy spectrum measurement of X-ray radiation, making a series of systematic and original achievements.

 

Prof. Cao has also chaired over 20 national and provincial-level research projects with 208 research papers published, and obtained 20 authorized invention patents, 9 utility model patents and 2 software copyrights. Meanwhile, Prof. Cao has won multiple national awards such as National Technology Invention Award, Deng Jiaxian Science and Technology Awards, several national awards for science and technology progress and so on. He has also been awarded several honors such as Outstanding Expert of the China Academy of Engineering Physics, Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert in the New Century National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project, and National Level Leading Talent of Shenzhen.

 

In terms of his scientific achievements, Prof. Cao has undertaken the diagnostic system construction for Xingguang III and Shenguang II Upgrade laser facilities, trained a group of high-level talents engaged in laser plasma diagnosis, and developed a series of high-precision plasma diagnostic equipment, which has played a critical role in key physics experiments for national defense applications. He has also invented the single-order diffraction grating for X-ray, making it a distinctive research topic, and established a team for promoting engineering development and industrialization that gathers advantaged domestic resources and integrates the industry, university, research, application and business. All the achievements have greatly contributed to the application of national defense technology as well as the disciplinary development in related industry.
