College of Urban Rail Transit inaugurated

On May 31, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) signed a cooperation agreement with Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. (SZMC) to jointly establish College of Urban Rail Transit of SZTU. The two sides will train students with good qualities, creativity and high-end skills, do scientific research, develop technologies and transform the results hand in hand. The cooperation will play an important role in the comprehensive urban rail transit and other related fields in the metropolitan area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Xin Jie, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of SZMC; Mu Yong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of SZMC; Chen Qi, chairman of Shenzhen Metro Operation Group; Liu Meiman, president of Shenzhen Metro University; Zeng Jian, vice president of Shenzhen Metro University; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; Prof. Xu Gang, vice president of SZTU; Prof. Franz Raps, dean of College of Urban Transportation and Logistics; and Prof. Cheng Tao, deputy dean of College of Urban Rail Transit.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen said that SZTU is an undergraduate public institution established by Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality with a sound beginning, quality performance and high standards. SZTU has been a popular destination for high school graduates over the past two years and ranked among the top ten universities in Guangdong Province based on the cut-off scores for students of sciences. The rapid development of SZTU cannot be achieved without the strong support of many well-known local enterprises including SZMC. The establishment of College of Urban Rail Transit will meet the huge demand for talented people and technology when rail transit has developed rapidly in Shenzhen and the whole metropolitan area. The two sides can take this opportunity to better integrate the university with the industry.

Xin Jie, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of SZMC, congratulated on the signing of the cooperation agreement and the official inauguration of College of Urban Rail Transit. He said that Shenzhen has entered the fast lane of accelerated development in rail transit and various transportation modes have started to integrate, which requires innovation to be placed emphasis on. This is a great opportunity for SZTU and SZMC to work together and train technological backbones for Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and the entire industry.

On behalf of SZTU and SZMC, Prof. Ruan Shuangchen and Chairman Xin Jie signed the Cooperation Agreement on the Joint Establishment of College of Urban Rail Transit and inaugurated the College.

 

SZTU and SZMC will carry out cooperation in the following aspects:

1. Co-build a college

The two parties will jointly establish College of Urban Rail Transit to train versatile and practical talents with engineering skills and creativity through a 3+1 program. Qualified graduates from the college will be given hiring priority by SZMC based on prescribed procedures.

 

2. Co-build platforms

The two parties will jointly build platforms to train students, enhance technological innovation and promote industry-university-research-application cooperation. The two sides will build SZTU-SZMC Urban Rail Transit Collaborative Innovation Education Base, SZTU-SZMC Jutu College and other off-campus practical innovation education bases and joint training demonstration bases for students at the university level, provincial level and even national level.

 

3. Other multidimensional cooperation

Exchange visits and academic exchanges will be supported for management and technical personnel, teachers and researchers from both sides. In-depth cooperation will be carried out including internationalized talent training, scientific research cooperation, technological innovation, achievement transformation, social services and cultural inheritance.
