Jointly hosted by Zhaya Deutsch, a professional organization providing German courses and services for studying abroad, and the German Department of East China Normal University, co-organized by the German Department of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, and sponsored by Tongji University Press, the competition aims to advance students’ professional skills and serve as a learning platform for German major students and teachers. Although SZTU participants have learned German only for less than one year and they competed with students from many renowned universities including Renmin University of China, Tongji University and Dalian University of Foreign Languages, they won the first prize with great language proficiency and thorough preparation. Another SZTU team also became one of the finalists and they are Wu Zhiyan, Chen Ziyi, Li Nan, Zhang Yiwei, Liang Junwei and Liang Jiancheng.
Through nurturing versatile students with specialized skills, SFL is committed to fostering foreign language professionals with global visions, hands-on abilities and humanistic sensibilities. The Department of German is highly committed to optimizing the curriculum of German for science and technology and to serving the university’s goal of cultivating application-oriented personnel. Ultimately, the department will explore a new education mode to meet the demands of the industry and the job market.

SFL also strongly encourages students to participate in competitions, such as the German dubbing competition, which can serve as a channel to test their practical language skills. For these participants who started to learn German last year, it was difficult to understand and follow the video clip they were going to dub at the beginning. But after imitation and practice hundreds of times, they can not only complete dubbing without a stop but also make the characters alive with their language.
