2023 Cross-Strait & Hong Kong-Macao Design Innovation Youth Academic Forum held

From October 28 to 29, 2023 Cross-Strait & Hong Kong-Macao Design Innovation Youth Academic Forum was successfully held at Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU). The event attracted over 200 participants from more than 50 colleges and universities in the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

 

The forum was attended by distinguished guests, including Prof. Ming Zhong, vice president of SZTU; Prof. Chi-Hsiung Chen, vice president of Asia University; Prof. Chung-Ho Su, vice president of Shu-Te University; Prof. He Renke from Hunan University; Prof. Yu Suihuai from Northwestern Polytechnical University; Prof. Henry DUH, director of PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Mr. Vince Chu, pro-rector of the City University of Macau; and associate Prof. Po-Hsun WANG, associate dean of Faculty of Innovation and Design, City University of Macau.

During the opening ceremony, Vice President Prof. Chung-Ho Su of Shu-Te University and Prof. Yen Hsu, deputy dean of College of Design, Tatung University signed MoUs respectively with Vice President Prof. Ming Zhong and Prof. Du Hemin, deputy dean of SZTU’s School of Design and Innovation representing SZTU. It lays a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides in academic exchanges, interactions among teachers and students, industrial transformation, etc. Following the opening ceremony, guests were invited to deliver keynote speeches on the theme of “Collaboration, Design and Innovation”. The topics included innovation and design in the context of AI, cultural inheritance and design innovation, city image formation and talent training in innovation and design.

Prof. Ming Zhong extended a warm welcome to the guests, experts and scholars coming afar to attend the forum. He said that design and innovation are key elements to fuel economic growth and improve the quality of life. SZTU aims to train engineers, designers and other high-end, high-quality applied talents with a global vision, craftsmanship and innovation and entrepreneurship abilities. He hoped that the forum can serve as a platform for young designers from across the strait, as well as Hong Kong and Macao, to exchange ideas, collaborate and learn from each other.

On October 29, sub-forums were opened where young teachers and postgraduates from over 30 colleges and universities in the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao presented reports on various topics, such as smart design and design innovation, experience and service design, elderly welfare and human factors engineering, friendly environment and sustainable design, and design education and industrial development. Guests had an autonomous driving experience and a tour of the labs and exhibitions at School of Design and Innovation of SZTU.

 

The forum was hosted by SZTU under the guidance of Taiwan Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. It has great importance to enhance cooperation among universities and academic organizations for design and innovation in the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao and drive young tech workers to provide intellectual support for economic and social development.
