SZTU Opening Ceremony and Youth Singing Gala held

On the evening of October 11, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) held its 2025 Opening Ceremony and Youth Singing Gala. The ceremony was engaged by Prof. Chen Qiuming, secretary of the Party Committee; Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection; Prof. Liang Yongsheng, vice president; Prof. Ming Zhong, vice president; and Prof. Deng Yuanlong, vice president. It was also joined by Liu Li, vice mayor of Pingshan District, along with representatives from companies such as DOBOT, Huawei, Tencent, HansLaser, BYD, Honor, and YHLO, as well as deans, department heads, and faculty members from various colleges. Most importantly, over 3,800 new students participated in the ceremony. They come from 24 provinces across China and from international regions including Malaysia, Russia, Germany, Ecuador, France, Austria, South Korea, and Indonesia.

At the ceremony, all the new students solemnly wore the school badge. It represents the motto of SZTU: “Seek truth, pursue excellence”.

Prof. Chen Qiuming delivered a speech during the opening ceremony. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is reshaping the world and, in the face of numerous uncertainties, the university will focus on “revisiting university education common sense” as the core principle, aiming to accelerate the establishment of a high-level university of applied research.

Mr. Liu Peichao, founder and chairman of Shenzhen Dobot Corp. Ltd., likened the relationship between universities and enterprises to “seeds” and “soil”, urging students to embrace a spirit of innovation to contribute to China’s future.

Associate Prof. Zhang Mingji from Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing, as the staff representative, encouraged new students to explore knowledge with curiosity and perseverance.

Barbara Offer, an international student from Austria, shared her gratitude for the sense of belonging at the university and expressed her excitement for learning about Chinese culture.

Doctoral student He Xingyu, a third-time newcomer to the ceremony, has joined SZTU back in 2019, encouraged students to develop their insight and creativity to contribute to innovation and national development.

Liu Shengyi, representative of undergraduate freshmen from the College of New Materials and New Energies, encouraged students to transform personally, respond to societal needs with professional knowledge, and contribute to industry development through innovation.

After the Opening Ceremony, the Youth Singing Gala was held, organized by the School of Music. The show featured a symphonic performance by the SZTU Symphony Orchestra and renowned artists, and it also included a drone light show, an AI-composed song “Light of SZTU”, lively dance and singing performances, and a fashion show.

The Opening Ceremony and Youth Singing Gala attracted 4.23 million live-stream viewers, showcasing the university’s diversity and spirit.
