Prof. Han Peigang, dean of College of New Materials and New Energies of SZTU, also addressed the opening speech and expected both SZTU and SUTD, as two young universities, will take the summer camp as an opportunity to facilitate long-term cooperation and exchanges with each other. He also encouraged students to be active in putting forward creative ideas and making friends during the event despite the limitations of online communication.

On the first day, the students from both sides showcased their colorful campus life and attended ice breaking activities virtually. They also shared some creative design programs of SZTU and SUTD respectively. Afterwards, Prof. Hu Yunfei from College of New Materials and New Energies of SZTU and Prof. Kwan Wei Lek from SUTD, who were responsible for the summer camp, introduced the experimental projects on new energies to be conducted during the summer camp.

After theoretical learning, the students started to put the projects into practice. The students from SZTU were divided into three groups to build and test the off-grid photovoltaic system (including making solar modules) and the solar thermal baking system. The two projects were successfully carried on under the instruction of SZTU teachers and the operation processes were presented through live streaming. The students from SUTD were divided into five groups to design and make solar powered mosquito zappers.
