Three-week SIBBC successfully held

The Swiss International Business Boot Camp (SIBBC) jointly held by Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) was launched on July 16, 2018. During the boot camp, three students from Switzerland, four students from Hong Kong, six SZTU students from the College of New Materials and New Energies and two teachers spent three weeks together studying at the launching campus of SZTU and took part in enterprise investigation and research activities at different cities of Guangdong province. Prof. Markus Prandini from ZHAW and Prof. Cheng Yuk Shing from HKBU delivered their speeches and expressed their best wishes for the boot camp at the welcome reception held at HKBU.

At the boot camp, Prof. Prandini and Lecturer Jörg from ZHAW were giving out lessons to students. Several senior executives from Migros branches in Switzerland and Hongkong, also contributed by means of theoretical training to the students’ study on Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). Migros is the sponsor for SIBBC and the largest retailer in Switzerland, mainly engaged in food, medicine, supermarket etc. BSCI is an initiative of the Foreign Trade Association for promoting workplace conditions in accordance with human rights, national labor law etc.

Apart from having face-to-face exchanges with worker representatives of these enterprises, the students carried out in-depth discussion on the implementation of BSCI with company management regarding its impact, relevant difficulties and solutions, which helped students to establish a well-rounded understanding of enterprise’s production procedures, management systems, and their security systems for safe production.

During after-class hours, the students visited a great number of scenery spots in Shenzhen, savored various cuisines, and played table tennis and badminton together.
