On May 16, 2019, at the invitation of College of New Materials and New Energies, Prof. Ching-Ping Wong came to visit Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU). Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, President of SZTU met with Prof. Wong and made introduction about the construction progress and the concept of SZTU. Prof. Wong highly recognized the speed of SZTU development and the unique concept of university management. After further discussion, Prof. Wong was hired as a Guest Professor of SZTU. Prof. Ruan was confident that Prof. Wong would bring more valuable experience to SZTU in discipline development, scientific research and talents training.

In the afternoon, Prof. Wong gave a lecture on ‘Innovation in Science and Engineering with Focus on Semiconductor Industry’ to SZTU teachers and students. Prof. Han Peigang, Dean of College of New Materials and New Energies, Prof. Xiang Shaohua, Dean of College of Big Data and Internet, and Prof. Hu Junqing, Dean of College of Health Science and Environmental Engineering, attended the lecture. In his report, Prof. Wong gave an in-depth explanation of the decisive role of creativity and innovation in research and study based on his own experience on research and innovation. He also highlighted the significance of creativity, innovation and teamwork in the fields of science and engineering.

The Q&A session ignited students’ interests in innovation, creativity and university construction. Prof. Wang answered their questions with patience and detailed examples. SZTU faculties and students all gave a positive feedback after the lecture.

Professor Ching-Ping Wong is the Charles Smithgall Institute Endowed Chair and Regents’ Professor and a member of the US National Academy of Engineering. His research interests lie in the fields of polymeric materials, electronic packaging and interconnect, interfacial adhesions, nano-functional material syntheses and characterizations and nano-composites.
