SZTU builds Swiss Innovation Center with Bern University of Applied Sciences

On June 23, Prof. Dr. Herbert Binggeli, President of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), led a delegation to visit the Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) and participated in the SZTU Open Day. On the evening, accompanied by Prof. Xu Gang, Vice President of SZTU, Prof. Han Peigang, Dean of the College of New Materials and New Energies, Prof. Hu Junqing, Dean of the College of Health Science and Environmental Engineering, and Prof. Franz Raps, Dean of the College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, the BFH delegation attended the opening ceremony of MC² Bar, initiated by the College of New Materials and New Energies.

BFH delegation paid a visit to three well-known local companies in Shenzhen namely BYD, Han’s Laser and Yeefung Technology. The delegation felt highly impressed by the rapid development of Shenzhen technological innovation.

On June 25, a meeting centered around the future cooperation between BFH and SZTU turned out to be productive with a Memorandum of Understanding signed on the joint establishment of the Swiss Innovation Center. Five members of the BFH delegation, Prof. Dr. Herbert Binggeli, President of BFH, Prof. Dr. Ingrid Kissling, Director of BFH Business Department, Prof. Dr. Heinrich Zimmermann, Professor and Researcher for Enterprise Development, BFH Business Department, Prof. Dr. Erik Graf, Professor for Data Engineering, and Prof. Peter Eigenmann, Head International Relations Office, expressed their opinions on the cooperation with SZTU in different aspects. Prof. Han Peigang, Dean of the College of New Materials and New Energies, Prof. Hu Junqing, Dean of the College of Health Science and Environmental Engineering, and Prof. Franz Raps, Dean of the College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, Ms. Zeng Siyu, Head of the International Cooperation & Student Affairs Office, Prof. Xu Qianghua, University-Enterprise Cooperation Officer of College of Big Data and Internet, and Assoc Prof. Su Yaorong, International Affairs Coordinator of College of New Materials and New Energies, attended the meeting and witnessed the signing ceremony.

At the meeting, Prof. Ruan greeted the BFH delegation with a warm welcome and introduced SZTU to the guests, mainly about the infrastructure construction, international education and cooperation, university-enterprise cooperation and discipline setup. Prof. Ruan strongly supported the establishment of Swiss Innovation Center, hoping to take it as an opportunity to push forward the innovation and industrial integration among SZTU, Swiss universities, research institutes and enterprises. The Swiss Innovation Center is expected to build a highly efficient system and ecological base for innovation training, creating an international innovation platform for students of both universities.

Prof. Binggeli highly recognized the university mission and talent training model of SZTU. The video of SZTU International Week which included international courses and the International Forum made a deep impression on the guests. Prof. Bingley pointed out that SZTU holds enormous potential in its scale and student quality in the next five to ten years.

On the afternoon of June 25, BFH delegation visited the Laboratory of Materials Testing, Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Sino-German Laboratory of Beer Brewing Process Control, followed by impressive visits to the labs of College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, including the Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) Simulation Lab and the Automotive Engineering Experimental & Practical Teaching Center. The delegation members were impressed by the cutting-edge technology at the Laboratory for Crystal Growth and Characterization, College of New Materials and New Energies. They also visited the Industrial 4.0 Intelligent Factory of Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing and Sino-German Laboratory of Oral Digital Design and Intelligent Manufacturing, in which they learned some new information about crystal U disk production line, oral digital design and intelligent manufacturing. Last but not least, the delegation visited the Laboratory of Optical Design and Inspection, Laboratory of Optical Fiber Sensing and Virtual Instrument Technology Joint Laboratory.

In addition, Prof. Peter Eigenmann, met with the students of the College of New Materials and New Energies, who will be attending the 2019 summer school at BFH. They actively raised their questions and prepared themselves for the upcoming summer program.
