The Ultrafast Lasers Technology Forum was held at Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) on May 29, and the Key Technologies R&D Program for Picosecond UV Lasers with High-efficiency Modulation and High Power was also officially launched. The event was joined by Professor Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, Ms. Wen Li, director of Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Division of Science, Technology and Innovation Commission (STIC) of Shenzhen Municipality, experts and scholars from well-known universities and scientific research institutions including Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Tsinghua University (THU), Tianjin University (TJU), South China Normal University (SCNU), Jinan University (JNU), Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Shenzhen Graduate School, South China University of Technology (SCUT) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU).

President Ruan Shuangchen made a detailed presentation on SZTU’s preparatory work, running model, philosophy, specialty setup, enrollment, teaching staff, university-enterprise cooperation, and cooperation with well-known universities of applied sciences abroad. He highlighted the background, planning and development of SZTU’s Laboratory of Strong Field Laser.

Ms. Wen Li briefed the guests on Shenzhen’s investment in science and technology. She said that Shenzhen is continuously increasing R&D support for technological research projects, core technologies and key components. The Key Technologies R&D Program for Picosecond UV Lasers with High-efficiency Modulation and High Power is one of Shenzhen’s key projects in 2019, which will be a success, she believed, with the joint efforts made by various parties.

At the Ultrafast Laser Technology Forum, the latest academic developments, application and prospects of ultrafast lasers were updated by experts and scholars including Wei Zhiyi, deputy director of Key Laboratory of Optical Physics, Institute of Physics, CAS, Hu Minglie, professor of School of Precision Instruments & Opto-Electronics Engineering, TJU, Liu Qiang, director of Department of Precision Instrument, THU, Wei Xiaoming, researcher at SCUT and Liu Xing, assistant professor at NPU. They also gave suggestions on the new program.

The strong support of STIC Shenzhen, Han’s Laser Technology Industry Group Co., Ltd., HIT (Shenzhen) and other cooperative partners makes it possible for SZTU to launch the new program and expand its influence in China.
