Students' moments you can't miss

During this summer, students from Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) participated actively in several national and regional competitions and won many awards, adding highlights to their resumes.


1. 2020 HUAWEI CUP National Undergraduate IOT Design Contest

The contest’s finals closed in Shanghai on August 30. Two teams from College of Big Data and Internet were honored with first prize in the national final contest and first prize in East China Division respectively.

The contest targets innovative science and technology in the field of Internet of Things. This year, it attracted 1,360 teams which consisted of over 6,500 students from more than 560 universities including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Tongji University and other renowned institutions. 120 teams reached the finals.

2. RoboMaster 2020

A SZTU’s team, established on December 13, 2019, won the second prize in the online assessment of RoboMaster Technical Challenge Competitions on August 25. There are currently 26 members from College of Big Data and Internet and Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing.

The RoboMaster Program provides competitions and events for young engineers from all over the world, aiming to foster innovation and hands-on experience in the field of robotics. It is hosted by DJI, the world’s leading drone manufacturer and jointly sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government.


3. 8th National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition

The competition came to a successful conclusion at the end of August. Two teams from SZTU won the national third prize and second prize in the Southeast China Division respectively.


Sponsored by the Chinese Optical Society and hosted by Southern University of Science and Technology, the competition is a top-level event for optoelectronics majors, aiming at popularizing optoelectronic knowledge and strengthening college students’ hands-on practice, innovation and teamwork.

4. 12th China Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Pingshan Division Preliminary) and the 2020 Pingshan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Finals

The contest was held on August 20 in Pingshan District. 39 winning projects were contested from 234 entries. 27 projects from SZTU registered for the competition, 7 projects were through to the finals and won two second prizes and three third prizes.

The competition is jointly sponsored by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and host by the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. It covers five domains including electronic information, internet and mobile internet, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing and new material. It has been successfully held for 11 consecutive years since 2009, attracting well-known domestic and foreign universities and research institutions such as Harvard University, University of Arizona, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen University, Jinan University, and City University of Hong Kong.


5. 6th China College Students’ “Internet +” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

The Guangdong Division Competition successfully concluded on August 9. Three projects from SZTU participated in the provincial competition, and two of them won the bronze medals.

A total of 674,900 participants from 214 universities and colleges signed up for the competition, submitting 157,800 projects, which set a record high. 262 SZTU students participated in the competition with 38 projects.

6. 15th China Graduate Electronics Design Contest

The South China Division Preliminary was held at Guilin University of Electronic Technology from July 25 to 26. A total of 125 teams from 19 universities in South China participated in the contest. Two teams of SZTU graduate students majoring in mechanical engineering, optical engineering, and computer technology won first prizes. Professor Chai Guangyue and Associate Professor Zhao Zhigang were honored “Excellent Instructor Award”.

7. 13th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving and Emission Reduction

The final assessment meeting was held at Chongqing University from July 20 to 22. Two out of nine recommended works from SZTU won third prizes after several rounds of competition.


The contest was sponsored by Higher Education Department of Ministry of Education. 4,138 works from 427 universities were submitted.

8. 12th Challenge Cup Guangdong University Students Entrepreneurship Competition

The competition was held at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from July 17 to 19. SZTU sent 11 projects to attend the competition and received two Silver Awards and six Bronze Awards, which was quite a success since it was the first time for our university to attend this competition.


The competition is co-sponsored by Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and Guangdong Students’ Federation. This year, it received 3,448 projects from 146 universities and 501 reached the final.

9. 3rd National German Short Video Contest for College Students

Shen Yize and Xue Wei, two students from College of Big Data and Internet participated in the personal speech section for non-German majors in the contest and won second prizes, standing out from more than 200 works across the country. Lecturer Zhang Lulu from School of Foreign Languages won Excellent Instructor Award.
