On October 9, Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), gave new students the first lecture in ideological education themed “Cultivate Talents for the Party and the Country”. Prof. Ruan reviewed the spirit, strength and commitment Chinese people have shown throughout the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, and urged the younger generation to draw lessons from the COVID-19 combat, carry forward China’s spirit, and devote their great strength to China’s development. To serve the country, the new students are encouraged to seize the opportunities on campus to innovate and grow into highly qualified talents like engineers, designers or actuaries in the new era.

To further enlighten the students, Prof. Ruan also shared the origin and development of global universities of applied sciences to expound the missions, commitment and development process of SZTU. He stated that SZTU was born to serve the increasingly urgent demand for high-end applied talents in China. Within just a few years, it has been making progress by leaps and bounds in campus construction, talent cultivation, international exchange and university-enterprise cooperation.

In order to develop towards a top university of applied sciences, SZTU upholds high-quality and international school-running concept, draws on advanced experience from first-class universities of applied sciences in developed countries such as Germany and Switzerland, builds professional and highly qualified faculty from worldwide, and nurtures international talents. To date, SZTU has signed cooperation agreements with 57 world-class universities, institutions and enterprises from 15 countries. To be specific, it has not only established an overseas liaison office in Germany and joint hands with FHWS to set up “Röntgen AI class”, but also held the International Week with various cross-cultural events, such as High Table Dinner and A Night of Bavarian Culture.
SZTU is committed to establishing an application-oriented undergraduate talent training system based on practice and adopting the education model of “engineering projects + university education + enterprise internship”. To enhance industry-education integration, the university has holistic collaborations with enterprises in talent cultivation and scientific research. For instance, SZTU has set up customized classes jointly with local companies such as KK Mold, Jufei Optoelectronics and Hans Laser, which provide students with specialized training plan and exclusive internship opportunities. As an explorer on the school-running model for domestic universities of applied sciences, SZTU is also bold in developing a new model for training innovative and entrepreneurial talents and encourages collaborations between teachers and students. As a result, a variety of innovative projects have been established, such as SZTU’s pop brand IP Takusaki, on-campus souvenir shop “The Artisan’s Loft” and video surveillance system.

The lecture inspires the new students deeply and instills confidence in them on their future career.
