President Xi Jinping attended a grand gathering in Shenzhen and delivered a speech at the event, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on October 14. As a trailblazer in reform and opening-up, Shenzhen has been transformed from a small fishing village into an international metropolis and economic hub full of vitality, innovation and creativity over the past 4 decades.

In his speech, Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that it is important for Shenzhen to unwaveringly carry out innovation-driven strategy, deepen reform and expand opening-up in a comprehensive manner, bolster its capacities to deal with the challenges of the new era, promote the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and become a global hub in scientific, technological and industrial innovation.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of SZTU and Prof. Xu Gang, vice president of SZTU, watched the live broadcast of the grand event and studied the speech delivered by President Xi Jinping. More than 300 representatives of SZTU also witnessed the ceremony online, including deans and students of each college and department heads.
