SZTU students honored with multiple awards

Recently, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) welcomed good news one after another, as SZTU students actively participated in various national and regional competitions and achieved excellent results.


1. The 8th Standardization Cup Social Research Competition

Sponsored by the State Administration for Market Regulation and undertaken by China Jiliang University (CJLU), the competition was round off on October 24. Since July this year, Quality and Standards Academy of SZTU has organized seven teams with 37 students of various majors to participate in the competition for the first time. Equipped with 2 to 3 professional instructors in each team, SZTU won two second prizes and two third prizes.

Prof. Qiu Huiling, vice dean of Quality and Standards Academy, said that the students can embed the standardization expertise into their majors through this competition, so as to further improve their own professional knowledge, management concepts and standardized thinking and lay a good foundation for future career. Meanwhile, this competition helps realize the integration of professional knowledge and skills among different colleges, and the strong alliance between the colleges will help cultivate international interdisciplinary talents of applied sciences with awareness on standardization.

2. The 10th Guangdong Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition

Under the theme of “Design Energizing Industry”, the competition was held in Guangzhou from October 23 to October 24 and collected design works concerning the construction of strategic industrial clusters beforehand. Through multiple rounds of competition, a team of three students from College of Creative Design finally won three awards in the special contest of “New IT” category, including Second Prize, Most Innovative Award, and Best Commercial Potential Award. Wang Xi, vice governor of Guangdong Province, presented trophies and certificates to the three award-winning students.

Mainly aiming at enterprises and scientific research institutes this year, the competition collected a total of 33,972 entries from different institutions, which led to great pressure on the student teams. It is the second time that SZTU becomes the only award-winning higher education institution in Shenzhen in this competition after achieving the highest award “Diamond Prize” in 2018, which represents the innovative design competency of universities in Shenzhen.

 

The award-winning project has been declared for invention patents as well as collected by the Industrial Museum of Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau and permanently exhibited in Shenzhen Civic Center.

3. The 7th Union Cup Guangdong Undergraduate College English Writing Contest

Recently, three SZTU students swept the awards of College English category in the 7th Union Cup Guangdong Undergraduate College English Writing Contest. He Xinyang from Business school won the first prize, Chen Xiaodan from College of Health Science and Environmental Engineering won the second prize, and Wang Songhui from College of New Materials and New Energies won the third prize.

The contest has been held for seven consecutive times since 2013. It is sponsored by Steering Committee of College English Teaching in Guangdong Province, Steering Committee of Undergraduate Education of Foreign Language Majors in Guangdong Province, and National Association of English Writing. A total of nearly 180,000 students in Guangdong Province signed up for the preliminary contest, and 295 students from 61 universities and colleges entered the final. Affected by the epidemic, the final was carried out online and organized by the participating institutions respectively.

 

SZTU attaches great importance to innovation in English writing education. The School of Foreign Languages has opened an English writing center to provide students with revision tips for their compositions and cultivate high-quality talents. This contest not only offers a stage for students to showcase their English writing skills but also further increases their interest in English writing.
