On November 24, Yu Quan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), research fellow of the Institute of Systems Engineering of the Academy of Military Science, and director of the Key Laboratory of Information System Security, was appointed as a distinguished professor of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU). Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, issued an appointment letter to Yu.

Yu Quan, elected as a CAE academician in 2009, is a leader in the field of national defense communications. He has been engaged in the overall design and model development of military communication systems for a long time and has presided over a number of major scientific research, including the development of the first multi-band multi-mode programmable software radio station of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the first-generation tactical communication network shared by navy, army and air force, and the first-generation short-wave integrated communication network. A series of key technologies such as software radio and dynamic ad hoc networks have been broken through. Yu has received many awards including one first prize and one second prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, four first prizes and two second prizes of the Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award, National Excellent Science and Technology Worker, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Qiu Shi Outstanding Young Scholar Award, Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth, China Youth May 4th Medal, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, etc.

“I am glad to join SZTU, which is a brand-new university of applied sciences at a high standing point with an open and advanced running and management philosophy and boasts a high-quality faculty team,” Yu said.  “I hope to contribute to the development of SZTU. I believe it will be a world-class university of applied sciences in the near future.”

After the appointment ceremony, Academician Yu Quan gave a lecture on the theme of “Future War: from Informatization to Intelligentization”.  Department heads and more than 600 teachers and students attended the lecture. Yu’s lecture made the audience have a better understanding of the evolution of future war combat modes, and the key to victory in future wars: combat modes, intelligent equipment and subversive technologies. He emphasized the importance of raising national defense awareness, which will make us closer to peace.

During the Q&A session, the audience exchanged ideas with Yu on issues such as the application of lasers in defense technology and how to raise awareness of network information security and national defense.
