From November 20 to 22, the 2020 Symposium on Laser Technology and Optoelectronic Materials & Annual Meeting of the Professional Committee of Image Information Functional Materials and Technology of the Chinese Society for Imaging Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) was held at Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU). The symposium was co-hosted by SZTU and the Committee, and organized by the College of New Materials and New Energies, Scientific Research and University-Enterprise Cooperation Office, and Excimer Laser and Functional Semiconductor Devices Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) of SZTU.

Chaired by Prof. Fang Xiaodong, director of the Center, the symposium was attended by Prof. Liu Wenqing, fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Prof. Gu Ying, fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Prof. Liu Qingxia, fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, delivered the opening speech, and Prof. Han Peigang, dean of College of New Materials and New Energies, gave the welcome speech in the symposium.

Over thirty experts attended the event. They are from different academic institutions and enterprises, including Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Beijing Institute of Technology, East China University of Science and Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, South China Normal University, Jinan University, Shenzhen University, Wuhan Huagong Laser Engineering Co., Ltd, Hymson Laser Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd, Shenzhen Micro Optical Instruments Co., Ltd, etc.

President Ruan welcomed Academician Liu Wenqing, Academician Gu Ying and the other experts present, and shared the establishment process and school-running philosophy of SZTU. He expected the experts and scholars to care about and support the construction of SZTU, as well as to give impetus to SZTU’s development into the first-class university of applied sciences in China.

Academic reports on different themes were delivered in the symposium. Academician Liu Wenqing presented a report titled "Innovation and Development Opportunities for Environmental Testing Technology", and Academician Gu Ying presented a report titled "New Opportunities for Optical Technology: Precision Medicine". The other presenters included Prof. Sun Hongbo from Tsinghua University, Prof. Wang Guoping from Shenzhen University, Prof. Duan Xuanming from Jinan University, Director Lu Feixing from Huagong Laser, and Director Peng Xinhan from Hymson Laser.

This symposium focused on the academic frontiers and industrial applications of laser technology and optoelectronic materials. The attendees had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the fields of advanced laser technology, environmental optical testing technology, laser medical treatment, laser materials processing, optical sensing, nanophotonics, optical functional materials, etc.
