IEEE SZTU Student Branch set up

Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) achieved the official approval by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for setting up IEEE SZTU Student Branch (hereinafter referred to as the Branch), and the unveiling ceremony was held at SZTU on March 30.

Distinguished guests that attended the ceremony include Liu Derong, chairman of IEEE Guangzhou Section; Hua Ning, senior director of IEEE Asia Business Operations; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of SZTU; Prof. Xu Gang, vice president of SZTU; and representatives of Shenzhen Administration for Market Regulation, Pingshan Branch of Shenzhen Administration for Market Regulation, and Science, Technology and Innovation Bureau of Pingshan District. Meanwhile, Deepak Mathur, director of IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific Region), expressed his congratulations to SZTU online.

At the ceremony, Prof. Xu Gang stated that as IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional institute, setting up the Branch is significant for SZTU to cultivate highly qualified talents of applied sciences with international outlook, craftsman’s spirit as well as innovation and entrepreneurship skills. He hoped the Branch will step up its organizational development and strengthen exchange and cooperation with other universities and colleges to develop into a distinctive and influential student organization with cohesive force and academic spirit.

Deepak Mathur said IEEE will provide standardized education and research opportunities for its members and expected that SZTU students can gain knowledge and pursue excellence by participating a variety of international activities there based on their needs for professional development.

Shi Shizhen believed that the Branch will offer students a broader platform to carry out scientific research and standardization work and will build a bridge of communication with other IEEE branches, universities and enterprises. He expected the students will devote themselves to scientific and standardized research vigorously for future career development and thus develop into highly qualified talents in standardization field.

Liu Derong stressed that establishing an IEEE student branch is to promote academic exchanges among students, professional teachers and experts, which will help broaden the students’ scientific vision and develop their all-round ability. He expected that SZTU students can take full advantage of the platform for self-improvement, and the IEEE student branches in different places will enhance communication with each other and make joint efforts to achieve IEEE’s aim of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

Lu Jiaxi promised that all student members will strive to make the Branch live up to all the expectations and become an energetic student organization focusing on academic and scientific research.
