Crafting the future in excellence

On the evening of September 17, the opening ceremony for the new semester was held at the brand-new stadium of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU).

It was joined by Prof. Zhang Jihong, secretary of the Party Committee of SZTU; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection; Prof. Liang Yongsheng, vice president of SZTU; and Prof. Xu Gang, vice president of SZTU. Deans of various colleges, department heads, 2021 freshmen, and representatives of partner enterprises and faculty members also attended the event. It was hosted by sophomore Wu Junnan and undergraduate freshman Luo Ting.

At the outset, Prof. Zhang Jihong presented awards to the Freshmen Scholarship winners.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen made a speech on the theme of “Crafting the Future in Excellence” at the ceremony. He warmly welcomed all the freshmen to the new Sky University and shared the soul and philosophy of SZTU. The sense of realism and the pursuit of excellence are what he expects all SZTU students to have. Realism, practice, functionality — these are the words that Prof. Ruan encouraged students to bear in mind and apply to their study and life. He hoped the freshmen can have a real and challenging learning journey in classrooms, companies and during practical training. He also inspired the students to pursue excellence in technology, efficiency, quality and professionalism. Pursuing excellence should have both a down-to-earth attitude and innovation.

Prof. Liu Qingxia, dean of Julong College and fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering made a speech as the teacher representative. He encouraged students to meet people with different backgrounds and improve themselves through multi-disciplinary study.

Huang Zhiqiang, chairman of SZTU’s partner enterprise KK-MOLD and guest professor of SZTU, spoke at the ceremony. He said that SZTU and KK-MOLD conducted in-depth cooperation because of technology. Innovation and innovative talented people are needed for national development while SZTU is the place where such professionals and experts can be trained.

Representing the new postgraduate students, Li Wen, majoring in Electronic Information, said it was a mature and determined choice to join SZTU. She hoped that the new generation of students can be the backbone of scientific and technological innovation.

Chen Weifeng from College of New Materials and New Energies spoke on behalf of the new undergraduate students. The gymnasium, library and nature are three friends that he recommended the students to make with. He hoped that his peers can chase their own dreams and find what they are passionate about.
