Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) and its German partner Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) started an international online lecture series entitled “Sustainability and Innovation in Connected World” on October 19. Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU and Prof. Jürgen Bode, vice president of H-BRS attended the opening ceremony.

The series consists of ten interdisciplinary lectures, given by ten deans and professors from two universities. It covers ten different topics including anthropology, carbon peaking and neutrality, wearables and economy in Europe and China. Nearly 200 SZTU students and over 40 H-BRS students signed up for the course. They have been divided into groups in proportion to complete group projects.

Prof. Ruan said that SZTU has actively carried out international exchanges and cooperation with universities abroad. Multiple activities have been held between SZTU and H-BRS. Although the two universities cannot have offline activities due to the pandemic, we never stop cooperating online. The two sides will continue to deepen international exchanges and cooperation and promote the all-round development of students with better facilities and more professional teaching.

Prof. Jürgen Bode said that H-BRS hopes to convey the concept of sustainability to students through the lectures. Students from China and Germany can also exchange ideas across national and geographic boundaries. He also hoped for offline communication among teachers and students of the two universities, further academic exchanges and greater cooperation between the two sides in the future.

This lecture series is led by Prof. Franz Raps, dean of College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, and is organized by International Cooperation and Student Affairs Office and Department of Academic Affairs. Prof. Franz Raps hoped that students can grasp this unique opportunity to “learn more about various fields and gain experience in cross-cultural exchanges.”

SZTU has been actively attempting to open up new channels of international communication against the backdrop of Covid-19. Prof. Zeng Siyu, director of International Cooperation and Student Affairs Office said, “This lecture series demonstrates SZTU’s determination to further promote international exchanges. Although we are miles afar due to the pandemic, we are closely connected through the Internet. Students can also benefit from these online lectures.”
