In December 2021, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) was listed into the first batch of institutions approved to establish the Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Base under the cooperation between the Ministry of Education of China (MOE) and Georg Fischer AG (GF), becoming one of the only two selected undergraduate institutions in Guangdong Province out of more than 180 candidates across China.

On June 30, 2022, SZTU held an online signing ceremony with GF Machining Solutions Ltd. on forging strategic cooperation relationship, aiming to further cooperate with world-renowned enterprises, draw on advanced talent training experience from the leading Swiss enterprises in intelligent manufacturing industry, successfully build the first batch of MOE-Swiss GF Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Bases (hereinafter referred to as the base), and promote the university’s internationalization. At the ceremony, Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, and Mr. Johnson Chen, head of Market Region China of GF Machining Solutions, signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the two parties.

Prof. Ruan gave a general introduction to SZTU’s development process, schools and colleges, student enrollment, talent training model, international cooperation and university-enterprise collaboration. He hoped that SZTU will join hands with GF to carry out internship and training, subject research, platform development, certification and evaluation, international cooperation and exchanges, as well as teaching team building in the field of intelligent manufacturing, thereby striving to build a national-level demonstration base, explore a world-leading talent training model that meets national needs for developing modern industrial system in intelligent manufacturing, make the base an example of high-quality international cooperation on technical talent training, and cultivate highly qualified talents for regional development.

Mr. Chen saw the cooperation with SZTU as a window in the Pearl River Delta region for GF to reach common development and mutual benefit. He said that GF will bring advanced technologies, teaching resources, industry standards and experience in cooperating with Swiss universities to China for carrying out key technological research, jointly applying for major local and national scientific innovation projects, and providing SZTU with services such as faculty training and employment recommendation. He hoped that the two parties can work together to meet the growing demand of manufacturers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for technologies and talents.

Prof. Zhang expected that, relying on GF’s advanced technologies and resources, the cooperation based on joint projects and training will be furthered rapidly and the industry-education integration will be deepened during the three-year construction period of the base.

Prof. Wu hoped that the two parties will promote cooperation in scientific research, talent training and personnel exchanges for the high-quality development among the enterprise, university and college.

Dr. Yang expected that taking the detailed base construction plan as a starting point, SZTU will expand cooperation and exchanges with Swiss universities and enterprises in talent training, international exchanges and university-enterprise cooperation.

Ms. Zeng said that SZTU has been closely cooperating with many Swiss universities in teacher and student exchanges, international courses and joint programs. Taking this partnership as an opportunity, SZTU is expected to carry out more cooperation with universities and enterprises in Switzerland in faculty and talent training, teaching, and scientific research.
