Recently, Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), led a delegation to Germany and Austria to visit multiple universities and organizations. SZTU has taken further steps to expand international cooperation and exchanges.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen and Dr. Gerald Reisinger, president of University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) when the delegation visited the university. Prof. Ruan expressed optimism about the future prospects for cooperation between the two sides in terms of discipline setup, teacher and student exchanges, joint research, and more. Dr. Gerald Reisinger fully affirmed SZTU’s running philosophy and the international cooperation achievements made since its establishment, and hoped for deeper exchanges and cooperation between the two universities at more levels in the future.
Founded in 1993, University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Austria. The university offers 32 bachelor’s degree programs and 37 master’s degree programs across four campuses: Hagenberg, Linz, Steyr and Wels. Its teaching and research focus on practical applications, and its exceptional performance in various applied disciplines has been widely recognized by domestic and international enterprises in Austria.

The delegation was also invited to attend the graduation ceremony at Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) in Austria. At the ceremony, Prof. Andreas Altmann, rector of MCI, extended a warm welcome to Prof. Ruan and the SZTU delegation. He said that MCI has maintained a good cooperative relationship with SZTU, one of the most dynamic universities. The two sides have achieved outstanding results in the construction of international courses and exchange programs since July 2020. He hoped that deeper cooperation could be confirmed in the future.

The delegation had an in-depth discussion with Prof. Andreas Altmann, Prof. Wei Manske-Wang, head of China Center, and Dr. Susanne Lichtmannegger, dean of International Relations.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen also met three exchange students from SZTU who are studying at MCI this semester. They won Austrian Ernst Mach Grant scholarships and were grateful for the valuable opportunities to study abroad. Prof. Ruan encouraged the students to enjoy their academic life and broaden their horizons at MCI. Since SZTU and MCI signed the cooperation agreement in 2020, two batches of four SZTU students have participated in exchange programs at MCI.

The delegation also visited the Federation of Austrian Industries, Tyrol (IV-Tyrol), which was founded in 1946. It is one of the regional divisions of the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV) and aims to promote the sustainable and sound development of Austrian industry. The SZTU delegation met with IV-Tyrol President Christoph Swarovski and General Manager Michael Mairhofer.
Another important event in which the delegation participated was the 2nd International Roboticist Forum at Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). Experts and scholars from 17 higher education institutions around the world gathered to engage in academic exchanges focusing on the field of robotics and to explore ways to strengthen global cooperation in teaching, research, and technology transfer.

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen was invited to deliver a speech. He shared basic information about SZTU and demonstrated the robotics technology achievements of the university.

The delegation went to the key laboratories of THWS and well-known German companies, including Schaeffler Group, S. Oliver Group and Koenig & Bauer Group. The delegation engaged in extensive discussions about laboratory construction, applications of robotic technology, and international cooperation.

Together with four students, Associate Prof. Yang Can, deputy dean of Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing at SZTU, also participated in this forum. They took part in many activities such as robotics lectures, laboratory seminars, and competitions. The event has greatly broadened their global horizons and further stimulated their enthusiasm for learning in the field of robotics.

The delegation also visited Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT) and held a symposium with Prof. Peter Sperber, president of DIT; Ulrike Sauckel, director of International and Alumni Affairs; and Manuela Krawagna-Nöbauer, consultant for Chinese Affairs. Prof. Holger Haldednwang, honorary dean of Business School at SZTU and the facilitator of the cooperation between the two sides, was also present at the meeting. Prof. Ruan hoped to expand the scope of cooperation with DIT in the future and explore new cooperation models in the fields of teacher and student exchanges, joint laboratory construction, scientific research and transformation of technological achievements.
During the five-day visit, Ms. Zeng Siyu, director of SZTU’s International Cooperation and Student Affairs Office, stated that it has further strengthened SZTU’s international cooperation network and enhanced mutual learning and exchanges between SZTU and universities in Germany and Austria. It will lay a solid foundation for international education and cooperation in a broader, deeper and more diversified manner.
