SZTU achieves excellent results in important competitions

Recently, students from Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) were crowned champions in two important competitions, showcasing their expertise in different professional fields.


01 The 6th National Undergraduate German Dubbing Competition

On May 5, the final of the 6th National Undergraduate German Dubbing Competition was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Luo Yuyin, Chen Yutong, Zhu Jiahui, Jia Bohan, Huang Yuting, and Yuan Weihuan from School of Foreign Languages (SFL) won the first prize in the national competition, and their instructors were Lecturers Liao Ran and Zhu Yanqin from SFL.

The National Undergraduate German Dubbing Competition, as a traditional event for the German language community in universities across China, aims to use language as a key and sound as a bridge to cultivate undergraduates’ interest in German language learning and the cultures of German-speaking countries and to enhance exchanges among German language disciplines in universities across China. Since its launch on January 25, this year’s competition has attracted students from 34 renowned universities and colleges, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Beijing Language and Culture University.

In 2024, the national final adopted a new competition format different from previous years, which imposed higher requirements on the contestants’ resilience, vocal skills, and emotional commitment. Instructor Liao Ran said the competition was fierce with many senior students from well-known universities participating in this year’s competition. “Their passion and dedication to learning German and their positive attitude towards facing the unknown made them break through.”

 

02 The 11th National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovational Competition (UMIC)

On May 5, the 11th National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovational Competition (UMIC) of Guangdong Province came to an end at Shantou University. The teams of SZTU performed excellently, winning five first prizes, three second prizes, three third prizes, and two excellence prizes, and four teams of the first prizes were qualified for the finals of the National Competition. The number of first prizes, the total number of prizes, and the number of teams with access to the finals all ranked first in Guangdong province. This is another bumper harvest for SZTU teachers and students in the event, fully demonstrating the excellent strength of SZTU students in the field of mechanical innovation design.

The provincial competition, approved by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education and organized by the steering committee of the Ministry of Education on the teaching of college majors in mechanical engineering, aims to guide higher education institutions to focus on cultivating college students’ awareness of innovation and design, comprehensive design ability and team spirit as well as strengthening their hands-on ability and engineering practical skills through innovative thinking.

In order to prepare for the competition, Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing of SZTU equipped the teams with funds, venues and other necessary resources, and ensured that the participants were free to innovate and take part in the competition in an orderly manner.

A total of 11 teams with 50 teachers and students from SZTU participated in the final round, led by three teachers, Chen Hua, Zhan Wanglong and Liu Yong, and joined by Prof. Chen Fei, deputy dean of Sino-German College of Intelligent Manufacturing, and instructors Associate Prof. Xu Binbin and Associate Prof. Zhang Haichuan. The works of SZTU won praise from the judges and other participants for the high professional level and positive spirit of the SZTU students.
