2024 International Week bursts with colorful activities

With colorful activities taking place, the 2024 International Week of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) attended by over 100 international professors and students from 12 countries came to a climactic close on September 27.

 

Besides sharing knowledge, ideas and culture with SZTUers, the international guests also experienced traditional Chinese culture, learned about local technological achievements, tasted Chinese cuisine and enjoyed various performances during the special week.

On the morning of September 24, the First Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Festival held by the College of Pharmacy attracted many international teachers and students to learn about traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and experience TCM treatment. Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of SZTU, and Prof. Liang Yongsheng, vice president of SZTU, attended the festival together with the heads of related colleges and departments.

The festival was followed by “Intangible Cultural Heritage into Campus” event, which invited a well-known inheritor of Kylin Dance to showcase and introduce this intangible cultural heritage on campus.

On September 25, the international guests took lab tours on campus, during which they learned about the laboratory equipment and latest achievements of different colleges at SZTU, exchanging knowledge and ideas on research.

The lab tour was followed by another exciting activity “Lakeview German Bavarian Cultural Night”, which gathered over 1,000 participants, including the leadership team, heads of different colleges and departments, teachers and students of SZTU together with the international guests. Co-organized by the International Cooperation and Student Affairs Department, and Catering Service Center, the Bavarian Cultural Night was an unforgettable feast of Chinese and German cultures where the participants enjoyed Bavarian cuisine and wonderful performances.

Since its founding, SZTU has maintained close partnerships with many universities of applied sciences in Bavaria, Germany. Therefore, SZTU has continuously held such event since 2018 to promote Sino-German cultural exchanges. Bavaria has a rich and diverse food culture, which is a highlight of German culture. The buffet for the night offered traditional German cuisine, dessert, snacks and beverages.

On September 26, the international guests were invited to visit two renowned local enterprises, namely Edan Instruments and BYD Company Limited, in which they learned about the latest products and technologies in Shenzhen.

The last day started with the 6th High-level Forum on Universities of Applied Sciences themed “Innovation and Development of High-Level Universities of Technology”, at which the presidents and professors from overseas universities and SZTU exchanged knowledge and ideas, with four keynote speakers giving insightful speeches. As a major event of the International Week, the international forum was participated in by over 270 international guests and SZTU faculty members. Prof. Liang Yongsheng and Prof. Zhang Yanhong also attended the event. Ms. Zeng Siyu, director of International Cooperation and Student Affairs Department of SZTU, served as the host. Taking their own universities as examples, the keynote speakers shared the ideas and strategies for university innovation and development.

As one of the keynote speakers, Prof. Liang Yongsheng introduced the I3-Integrated Talent Development System for the collaborative growth of students, teachers, and enterprises. He stated that internationalization, innovation and industry are three core elements of universities of technology. By establishing a talent growth evaluation system that takes them as three indicators with long-term data tracking and analysis on them, the effectiveness of talent growth in universities can be evaluated and valuable feedback can be provided for the optimization, adjustment, and sustainable development of university education.

On the evening of September 27, SZTU held the 2024 Opening Ceremony and Welcome Show for freshmen, attended by Prof. Zhang Jihong, secretary of the Party Committee of SZTU, Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of SZTU, as well as Prof. Liang Yongsheng and Prof. Ming Zhong, vice presidents of SZTU. Prof. Sabine Rein, president of HTWG Konstanz, and Mr. Wang Chenglu, CEO of Shenzhen Kaihong Digital Industry Development Co., Ltd., were invited to give speeches. The international professors and students, the heads and teacher representatives of different colleges and departments at SZTU, as well as over 4,000 new students participated in the event.

The Welcome Show this year showcased robots, artificial intelligence technology and original musical for the first time. A variety of impressive performances were given by students and teachers, including two choruses by both the international guests and SZTUers. As the show ended, the International Week was also rounded off with great joy and fruitful results.
