SZTU holds 5th Joint Painting & Calligraphy Exhibition

Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) recently held the opening ceremony of the 5th Joint Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of Universities in Shenzhen and the 3rd SZTU Painting and Calligraphy Competition. The opening ceremony was joined by Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; Liu Xunyong, vice chairman of Shenzhen Calligraphers Association; heads of the organizers and co-organizers; and representatives of teachers and students from participating universities.

The exhibition was hosted by the SZTU Youth League Committee, organized by several SZTU organizations including Association Union, Institute of Calligraphy Art, Calligraphy Association and Library, and supported by College of Creative Design. Ten universities from Shenzhen participated in the event including SZTU, Shenzhen University (SZU), Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Shenzhen, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen), Tshinghua Shenzhen Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU), Shenzhen Institute of Technology (SIT), Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) and Shenzhen Polytechnic (SZPT).

 

The joint exhibition selected 50 award-winning paintings and calligraphy works among a total of 151 works. The 3rd SZTU Painting and Calligraphy Competition received a total of 60 paintings and calligraphy works and 34 of them were awarded. The winning works are on display at SZTU Library. The joint exhibition also received written congratulations from university leaders including SZTU President Ruan Shuangchen, CUHK-Shenzhen President Xu Yangsheng and SUSTech University Council Chairperson Li Fengliang.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Ruan Shuangchen welcomed the guests and shared SZTU’s development process. He pointed out that SZTU, as a university of applied sciences, attaches great importance to aesthetic education. He hoped that SZTU can hold a calligraphy and painting exhibition every year as a stage for teachers and students to display their works and enjoy traditional Chinese arts.

Liu Xunyong said that SZTU explores new ways to educate students in arts and cultures by holding an exhibition and a competition. He hoped that all parties should work together to provide education about calligraphy and traditional culture for students in Shenzhen.

The Joint Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of Universities in Shenzhen, held every year by each university in turn, was initiated by SZPT in 2016 and joined by the other four universities in Shenzhen.
