Welcome home, SZTUers!

Edited by:Release Time:2020/05/20

On May 16 and 17, over 1,800 students made their way back to Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) after more than four months. Although COVID-19 is abating in China, SZTU has made tremendous efforts for the safe resumption of classes.

Free shuttle bus

Students can go back to the campus by taking the free shuttle bus when they arrived at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport or Shenzhen Pingshan Railway Station. SZTU collected information on their arrival time beforehand and made detailed arrangements to shuttle them back their second home at SZTU.

Cozy dorms

Students with their green health QR codes can enter the dormitory compound after identity verification and temperature checks. Luggage and carry-on bags were also disinfected.

Before they came back to school, students’ dormitories were disinfected with the help of the staff of the dormitory service center. A spot at the basketball court was temporarily set for students to air their quilts.

Free nucleic acid test

SZTU arranged free nucleic acid tests for all students on the days they came back. It only took 15 seconds or so for each student and the results were available the next morning.

Safe dining

Students can stagger their dining time to avoid the peak hour in the canteen. They must strictly keep social distancing of at least 1 meter when waiting in line. 3 different kinds of bento are provided by the canteen each day, so students can take the meal and leave very quickly. They can also dine in the canteen sitting separately.

Offline classes

On the morning of May 18, students took a lesson about epidemic prevention and control after school reopening on an online platform Tencent Class at their dormitories. They resumed offline classes in the afternoon. Big classrooms and lecture halls will be used and students should be separated to avoid crowding.

Teachers will help with students’ studies and answer questions they have during their ten-week virtual classes to ensure the smooth teaching and learning for the remaining spring semester.

Elaborate emergency plans

Before students came back to the campus, SZTU carried out several drills to practice its epidemic prevention and control measures and enhance its capacity for emergency management.

A contingency working group, four patrol cars and the police patrol from Shijing Police Station safeguarded teachers and students on the days they came back to SZTU.

High technology

Infrared thermometers, self-developed by a SZTU’s scientific research team, are installed at every entrance, which can quickly and accurately check the body temperature. The student dormitory area is equipped with pedal-powered elevators so that students can take the elevator without touching the button.

Thoughtful gifts

Every student got an exclusive health bag, which includes hand sanitizer, face masks, security pass and a letter written by Prof. Zhang Jihong, secretary of the Party committee of SZTU and Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, expressing their concern and a warm welcome to SZTU students.

“With abating virus and blossoming flowers,

we welcome you back to the campus.”
