On January 9, Julong College, also called Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, of Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) was officially inaugurated and the Symposium on Innovation and Talent Training was successfully held.

Many guests and scholars gathered at SZTU, focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship education and seeking common future development. The participants include Wu Yihuan, vice mayor of Shenzhen Municipality; Ma Zhongqi, researcher of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Qian Yitai and Ye Zhizhen, CAS academicians; Xu Zhenghe, fellow of Academy of Science of Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE); Zhang Hong, CAE fellow; Li Yong, deputy secretary of CPC Shenzhen Pingshan District Committee and district mayor of Pingshan; Li Junqi, chairman of Foxconn Industrial Internet (Fii); Prof. Zhang Jihong, secretary of the Party Committee of SZTU; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; and other representatives from universities and enterprises, and teachers and students from SZTU. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Liu Qingxia, fellow of CAE and dean of Julong College.

On behalf of the Shenzhen government, Vice Mayor Wu Yihuan congratulated the establishment of Julong College and affirmed the achievements of SZTU in recent years. She pointed out that the Shenzhen Municipality attached great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship, which is the inherent mission of SZTU. Strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship education by opening Julong College is an important measure to make SZTU a first-class university of applied sciences and make its special contribution to building an innovative Shenzhen. She encouraged SZTU students to embed their dreams in the Great Chinese Dream and the development of the city.

President Ruan Shuangchen said Julong College will create a new innovation education system and build a multilayered, deeply integrated and coordinated entrepreneurship education mode. It will promote interdisciplinary integration, enable students to consolidate their professional knowledge through entrepreneurship, improve their innovative and entrepreneurial capability through professional courses, deepen their understanding of market industrial capital and enhance their capability of transforming their scientific achievements into industrial products. A vibrant atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship will be created at Julong College and SZTU.

District Mayor Li Yong said that SZTU has strongly supported Pingshan District and Shenzhen in terms of scientific research, achievement transformation and talent training. The opening of Julong College will help SZTU continue its role as an innovation engine. Pingshan District Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Pingshan District Government will continue to support the development of SZTU and the newly-established college.

At the opening ceremony, many scholars offered their suggestions on the development of the college. CAS Academician Qian Yitai suggested that establishing a new curriculum system, innovating an evaluation system and expanding students’ horizons are three aspects that the university should stress when cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents.

CAS Academician Ye Zhizhen suggested that the university should focus on students’ capability of innovation knowledge, capability of developing new technologies and entrepreneurial capability.

CAE Fellow Liu Qingxia joined SZTU recently as the first full-time academician and has been appointed as dean of the college. He said that Julong College aims to build an international high-level innovation and entrepreneurship base with four main functions: education, interdisciplinary research, industry incubation and financial capital. University-enterprise cooperation and industrial integration will be the main focuses of Julong College in the future.
After the inauguration ceremony, the Symposium on Innovation and Talent Training was held. Speakers shared their views on innovation and entrepreneurship education.

Xu Zhenghe, dean of College of Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), introduced SUSTech’s exploration of training innovative engineering talents. The university provided more practical training bases for students in terms of artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, robotics and other industries.

Yu Shu, general manager of BMZ Company Limited, introduced how German enterprises have cooperated with local primary and secondary schools as well as higher education institutions since 2000. Drawing on the successful experience of Germany on school-enterprise cooperation and combining with the current situation in China, Yu shared his vision and plans of cooperation between BMZ and SZTU.

Fii’s chairman Li Junqi introduced Foxconn’s transition from “precision manufacturing” to “service-oriented manufacturing on the industrial Internet platform” over the past 30 years. Fii promotes “5G+intelligent manufacturing+industrial Internet” to lead innovation in automotive intelligent manufacturing and rail transportation. It also focuses on the integration of industry and education and the training of high-end talents. It can not only drive industrial innovation but also better serve society.
