On January 18, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) held Inauguration Ceremony and the First Representative Assembly of SZTU Association for Science and Technology. The assembly was attended by Lin Xiang, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and vice chairman of Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology (SZSTA), Zhu Hailong, director of the Organization and Liaison Department of Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU. Prof. Xu Gang, vice president of SZTU, chaired the assembly.

Prof. Xu presented the official document on agreeing to establish SZTU Association for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Association), and the “Articles of Association for Science and Technology of Shenzhen Technology University (Draft)” was approved at the assembly. Meanwhile, the first committee of the Association with a total of 17 members was formed by election, in which Prof. Xu was elected as the chairman. Prof. Cao Leifeng, distinguished professor of Center for Advanced Material Diagnostic Technology, Prof. Du Chenlin, director of University Assets and Laboratory Administration Office, and Prof. Kang Yan, deputy director of Research Center for Biomedical Device Innovation, were elected vice chairmen of the committee. Prof. Wu Xu, director of Scientific Research and University-Enterprise Cooperation Office, was elected general secretary of the committee.

Prof. Ruan introduced SZTU briefly, stating that SZTU attaches great importance to scientific research and the introduction of high-level and overseas talents with expertise in engineering and technology. It has built multiple scientific research platforms in a short period of time with a batch of research achievements, carried out featured university-enterprise cooperation projects in depth, and established the Industrialization Center of Technological Achievements to promote research achievement transfer. Taking advantage of the newly established association, SZTU will continuously enhance academic exchanges, organize popular science education campaigns, promote scientific spirit and improve the scientific and technological work of SZTU.

Zhu Hailong said that SZTUshoulders the mission of exploring new reform experience of universities of applied sciences in China, and expressed his expectations on future development of the Association. He also suggested that the Association should strive to unite and lead the scientific and technological workers; serve the development of science education, academic research and think tank; build a healthy and harmonious platform for talent growth; and improve the working mechanism to make itself a home for scientific and technological workers.

Lin Xiang pointed out the significance of establishing the Association and suggested that the Association should be built into a real home for scientific and technological workers by enhancing its organizational capacity, a platform for key scientific and technological research cooperation that encourages collaborative innovation among those workers, a frontline for academic and technical exchanges which supports those workers to contribute their findings to professional journals or organizations both at home and abroad, and a pioneering model in promoting scientific spirit and morality as well as developing popular science education.

As the newly elected chairman, Prof. Xu explained the important role of the Association at SZTU. He hoped that the Association will make efforts in improving academic exchanges and cooperation with the guidance of related policies, promoting the university-level scientific and technological achievement transfer as well as industry-university-research cooperation with the united force of scientific and technological workers, and enhancing the publicity and education of scientific ethics through a variety of educational campaigns. He stated that with a focus on technological innovation, the Association will be committed to serving the academic education as well as scientific and technological work of SZTU, and contributing to SZTU’s development into a first-class university of applied sciences.
