The year of 2021 is crucial for Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), not only because the first phase of its campus construction is to be completed soon and the university is to offer more majors and recruit much more students than last year, but also because it marks the first batch of students graduating from SZTU, including 213 undergraduates and 28 postgraduates.

On June 27, the day after SZTU Commencement Ceremony 2021, SZTU Open Day 2021 was held on campus. For COVID-19 prevention, the open day limited the number of visitors on campus to around 100, while most prospective students across China who just finished National College Entrance Examination and their parents were engaged in the open day online by watching the live stream.

At the open day, the students and parents got to learn about the school-running philosophy, faculty resources, teaching and living facilities as well as campus scenery by attending a variety of activities, including admissions information session, face-to-face consultation, campus tour through aerial walkways, and visit to the North Living Quarters, etc.

Held in the public teaching building, the admissions information session was addressed successively by Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, Prof. Liu Hongwei, director of Department of Academic Affairs and Admissions Office, as well as all college deans and heads of related departments. They gave presentations on every aspect of SZTU in detail, including the university profile, student enrollment plan, college information, employment and entrepreneurship, etc.

Prof. Ruan introduced SZTU in three parts: types of universities of applied sciences, founding process and talent cultivation of SZTU. Supported by the Minister of Education, Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality, SZTU was established with a sound beginning and high standards. Developing from the scratch, the university has updated “Shenzhen Speed” and showcased high quality in campus construction, faculty introduction and talent cultivation. Prof. Ruan stated that as a student-centered university, SZTU attaches great importance to talent training, whose cultivation mode is marked by internationalization, professionalization and creativity. For establishing itself into a first-class university of applied sciences, SZTU will further enhance international exchanges and cooperation, speed up building a high-level and international faculty team, and provide quality environment for students to study and live in.

Prof. Liu explained the student enrollment plan and policies, tuition fees, as well as scholarships and bursaries of SZTU. According to the enrollment plan, SZTU is set to offer 26 majors and recruit 2,865 undergraduates this summer, who will come from 15 provinces in China.

In the session, several representatives of current students also shared their study experience at SZTU.

Meanwhile, groups of teachers and students organized by different colleges or departments could be found everywhere on campus, who devoted themselves to providing face-to-face consultation services for the prospective students and their parents.

With all buildings in the first phase rising, SZTU campus finally unveiled its complete picture as China’s first “aerial campus” to the visitors this time. SZTU has opened aerial walkways which connect different buildings on campus and make SZTU distinctive among universities in China. Therefore, the visitors could further learn about the whole campus environment while walking through aerial walkways from the public teaching building to student dormitories.

At the open day, SZTU opened and introduced to the visitors several smart classrooms in the public teaching building and the temporary library at Zhuyun Garden which is now moving into the new one. The visitors spoke highly of the high-tech facilities inside the classrooms, such as nano integrated wall, all-in-one computer and electric lifting platform.

In the new administration building, the overall layout of SZTU was displayed on the sand table to the visitors. Following the principles of openness and sharing, SZTU builds its campus alongside Pingshan River and sets up many experiment and training bases.

At the North Living Quarters, visitors experienced the Chinese and Western canteens, which not only provided delicacies but also applied high technologies for the convenience of students, such as automatic dinnerware recycling and payment by intelligent facial recognition.

The campus tour also included visits to student dormitories and SZTU Hospital. The cozy and neat dormitories are well equipped with laundry rooms, elevators, private bathrooms, air-conditioning, and 24-hour hot water supply, etc. The simple but user-friendly design of student dormitories won praises of prospective students.

The live stream of SZTU Open Day 2021 on several online platforms attracted over 1.6 million views. Through the open day, prospective students and their parents had an up-close look at SZTU campus and learned much more about the university. SZTU looks forward to welcoming more freshmen this September.
