This outdoor competition attracted a total of 256 teams from 151 colleges and universities across the country. They can choose to participate in three different categories: outdoor intelligent car racing, outdoor unmanned bicycle driving and unmanned vehicle debugging and maintenance. SZTU Racing Studio competed in the first category. It tested many different advanced technologies including intelligent control of unmanned vehicles, machine vision, electronic circuit, application of robot operating system (ROS), application of lidar, depth camera and other new types of sensors, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), path planning, and autonomous navigation, which are closely connected with what students have learnt in class, which help them improve their ability to design, control and apply. Students can familiarize themselves with the technology used by the companies and get ready for the job market.

Tips:

The National University Students Smart Car Race is sponsored by the Chinese Association of Automation under the guiding philosophy of “to train, to participate, to explore and to excel”. It requires the participants to design unmanned smart cars with superior performance on specific tracks. University students are encouraged to analyze, design, develop and research the mechanical structure, electronic circuits, motion control, development and debugging tools of smart cars. Students can apply their multidisciplinary knowledge to real life and explore engineering technology and scientific research.
