Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) held its 2023 Commencement Ceremony on the morning of June 18 at the stadium. The grand ceremony was joined by Prof. Zhang Jihong, secretary of the Party Committee of SZTU; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU; Prof. Zhang Yanhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection; Prof. Liang Yongsheng, vice president of SZTU; heads of colleges and departments, parent representatives, and most importantly, the members of the class of 2023.

SZTU independently recruited students for the first time in 2019. Thus 808 students from the class of 2023 are the first batch of graduates that received bachelor’s degrees from SZTU. Three doctoral students and 97 postgraduate students who received joint training from SZTU and Shenzhen University also gained their diplomas.

This year, SZTU graduates have an excellent record of employment and further study. A total of 151 undergraduates will continue their studies both domestically and internationally. They will attend prestigious universities such as the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Tongji University, Sun Yat-sen University, Sichuan University, Xidian University, Southern University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Northeastern University, University of the Arts London, Newcastle University, and Royal College of Art. Those who decided to join the workforce received job offers from renowned enterprises such as Han’s Laser, BYD, ByteDance, Tencent, Dongfeng Motor, DJI, Siemens, Tesla and Founder Technology. Eight graduates have decided to start their own business and contribute to the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

SZTU awarded nine students as “Outstanding Postgraduates” and 45 as “Outstanding Undergraduates” to recognize their exemplary performance and encourage other students to strive for greater achievements.

Prof. Nicholas Jon Webber from Business School extended his congratulations to all the graduates on behalf of the faculty members. “Today, we celebrate your graduation, your hard work, your overcoming obstacles, and your success. Be proud, but with some humility. We are all proud of you.”

Prof. Ruan Shuangchen delivered a speech, in which he acknowledged the dedication and hard work of both the faculty members and students of SZTU. The Class of 2023 are “pioneers” and “explorers”, he said, as they have grown up together with SZTU. Prof. Ruan encouraged the graduates to add value to and improve the quality of their lives.

After the commencement speech, the degree-granting ceremony commenced. Prof. Ruan personally handed each graduate their diploma. The ceremony was also broadcast live on several online platforms, which attracted over 1.8 million views.
