Student team wins first price in global final of Huawei ICT Competition

Recently, the 7th Huawei ICT Competition ended successfully. The team from Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) won the first prize in the global final and one first prize, one second prize and one third prize in the national competition. This impressive achievement fully demonstrates the technical competence of the students and highlights the success of talent training since the establishment of College of Future Technology, a joint venture between SZTU and Huawei in January 2022.

With the theme of “Connection, Glory, Future” and the slogan of “I.C. The Future”, the Huawei ICT Competition aims to build a contest platform for university students around the world to exchange ideas, thus enhancing their ICT knowledge and practical skills as well as increasing their innovation capability by using new technologies and platforms. This year’s competition witnessed the largest offline scale ever, attracting around 120,000 students from over 2,000 universities in 74 countries and regions across the globe.

The competition consists of three tracks: computing, internet and cloud. These tracks thoroughly assess students’ knowledge and skills in computer operating systems, database technology, cloud computing, storage technology, artificial intelligence, big data technology, network planning, network design, network security, WLAN and more. SZTU students earned a total of eight prizes in three different tracks.

In the global final, He Teng, Lu Xingyu and Liao Jiarong had to conduct computer experiments lasting for eight hours. During the competition, they not only improved their professional skills and practical abilities, but also enhanced their cooperation.

Team leader He Teng said that he realized the importance of the sensitivity to the industry and professional direction of the study. For Lu Xingyu, it was his first time to participate in the competition and he was quite surprised to win the first prize in the global final. He said that the team members had fully utilized their respective advantages, which was one of the important factors for their success. As the instructor, Associate Prof. Ma Junchao stated that the Huawei ICT Competition can help universities to cultivate more talents to meet the needs of industries and enterprises. He encouraged more students from SZTU to participate in the competition in the future. It provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, improve their skills and achieve their goals.
