On June 24, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) Open Day 2023 was held on campus, attracting more than 6,500 visitors. This year, two venues for information sessions and one consultation area were set for visitors, who can freely walk around the campus according to their interests.

The information sessions took place at the Auditorium and the Administration and Public Service Center separately. The sessions were addressed successively by Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, Prof. Liu Hongwei, director of the Department of Academic Affairs and Admissions Office, as well as heads or professors from different colleges, schools and relevant departments.

Prof. Ruan introduced SZTU from three aspects: the origin of the name “Technology University”, the development process and the talent cultivation model. He talked about the history of German universities of applied sciences and some cases of how such universities integrate organically with local cities and enterprises. He stated that the founding of SZTU is an active exploration to address the shortage of high-level innovative applied talents and to optimize the structure of higher education in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality. It fully draws on the advanced experience of leading universities of applied sciences from countries such as Germany and Switzerland, and is committed to cultivating highly qualified applied talents such as engineers and designers at the undergraduate level and above. Besides, Prof. Ruan introduced the strong faculty team and multicultural campus life, and welcomed excellent students from all over China to choose SZTU.

Prof. Liu explained the student enrollment plan and policies, tuition fees, as well as scholarships and grants of SZTU. SZTU has set up 18 colleges and schools, 13 of which will offer 35 specialties to freshmen this autumn. It plans to recruit 4,000 undergraduates from 23 provinces in September 2023.

The college deans, deputy deans, professors, and relevant department heads successively introduced the facilities, features and talent training models of their colleges and schools.

At the consultation area, teachers and students from 13 colleges, schools and administrative departments patiently answered questions from the visitors, and introduced SZTU from different aspects in detail, such as international exchanges, student accommodation, scholarships and grants, student associations, innovation and entrepreneurship projects, etc.

On the open day, the whole campus were open to the public, including the college buildings, laboratories, public teaching building, library, gymnasium, canteens and student apartments. Some graduation design works were displayed in the college buildings. Visitors were impressed by the robots, drones, racing cars and other products made by SZTUers.

Shaped like a doctoral hat, SZTU Library is rich in collections and resources. The smart classrooms in the public teaching building are equipped with high-tech facilities such as nano integrated wall, all-in-one computer system and electric lifting platform.

The canteens and restaurants satisfied the tastes of visitors with various dishes and applied intelligent devices for the convenience of students, such as automatic dinnerware recycling and payment by facial recognition.

The cozy and neat apartments are well equipped with laundry rooms, tea rooms, gyms, elevators, etc. Praised by prospective students and their parents for the user-friendly design, each dorm is equipped with four beds, a private bathroom, air-conditioning and 24-hour hot water supply.

The live video of SZTU Open Day 2023 on several online platforms reached over 2.494 million views in 4 hours after the event ended. Through the open day, many prospective students and their parents got to learn about the philosophy, faculty team, teaching and living facilities, as well as campus environment of the young university. SZTU looks forward to welcoming more freshmen this September.
