On May 9th, Peter Eigenmann and Andrea Tamás, Head of International Relations Office at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) and Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) respectively, visited Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) and gave part of the staff members of SZTU a wonderful two-day lecture on Intercultural Communication.

Divided into four groups with six people each group, the class began with sharing personal intercultural experiences and opinions on specific intercultural phenomenon through group discussion and presentation in order to get the “students” to know each other and to learn the ways to be more culturally sensitive. Later on, the lecture took on a more abstract look with Peter and Andrea introducing to the class the definition of culture, different categories of culture dimensions and the way they play out in different countries, the Developmental Model for Intercultural Sensitivity, the theory of communication styles, the cycle of culture shock and the intensify factors for intercultural experiences.

By the end of the fruitful two-day lecture, everyone in class became more aware of cultural differences in communication and gained a comprehensive and systematic idea of intercultural communication.
