SZTU holds Laboratory Safety Culture Day

In order to give an impressive lesson on laboratory safety, enhance the emergency response and safety awareness of teachers and students, and prevent safety accidents effectively, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) held Laboratory Safety Culture Day on October 27.

The event was attended by Ruan Shuangchen, president of SZTU, Han Peigang, dean of College of New Materials and New Energies, and Lyu Guanghui, deputy director of Teaching and Experiment Center of College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering of Shenzhen University. The laboratory safety management personnel of related colleges and more than 200 student representatives also participated in the event.

Ruan Shuangchen put forward specific requirements for laboratory management in terms of hazardous chemicals, water and electricity, machinery and equipment, and biological safety. Taking laser safety as an example, he expounded lucidly the laboratory safety knowledge about laser application, hazards and emergencies. He emphasized that there is no limit to the efforts made for laboratory safety. SZTU must ensure laboratory safety and build a strong line of defense, so as to protect the lives and property of teachers and students as well as maintain a sound and stable campus environment.

Han Peigang said that College of New Materials and New Energies attaches great importance to the storage and management of hazardous chemicals, because the synthesis of new materials requires using various hazardous chemicals. The College has been actively rectifying and increasingly standardizing the management of hazardous chemicals in its laboratories in response to the feedback of previous laboratory safety inspections.

Lyu Guanghui explained the problems and solutions existing in the construction of university laboratories, and introduced fire emergencies in laboratories and corresponding response measures in detail.

 

The Laboratory Safety Culture Day is strongly supported by teachers and students, administrative departments and related colleges of SZTU. It will further enhance the understanding of laboratory safety culture among SZTUers and take the work on laboratory safety to a new stage, thus contributing to safe campus construction of SZTU.
